- HOW DO I DOWNLOAD A PICTURE FROM A NEWSGROUP?
-
- In order to help you download a picture from a Usenet newsgroup, America
- Online has introduced a feature called FileGrabber. Since newsgroups are
- text-based, anything more complex than simple text, like a picture, needs to
- be translated or encoded into text before it can be posted. FileGrabber will
- automatically take the encoded text and return it to it's original form which
- you can then download.
-
- HOW DO I USE FILEGRABBER?
-
- Using FileGrabber is as easy as reading a regular newsgroup posting. Simply
- double click on the post you would like to read, and if the post contains any
- encoded text the FileGrabber window will pop up. You can then specify
- whether you would like to download the file or not. If you choose to
- download the file, FileGrabber will ask you where you would like the file
- downloaded (to which directory on your disk).
-
- WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?
-
- After telling FileGrabber where you would like to download the file, the
- download will start. If the picture is a graphic type like GIF or JPG and if
- you are using America Online for Windows v 2.0 or version 2.5.1 for
- Macintosh, the graphic will be displayed immediately on your screen after the
- download completes. The America Online software supports ART, GIF and JPEG
- graphic formats. In addition, the Windows software supports the PCX and
- Windows Bitmap graphic formats. The Macintosh software also supports the
- PICT format. If you would like to learn more about viewing graphics and
- graphic formats, use Keyword QUESTIONS and click the "Viewing Graphics"
- button.
